HP experts -- a question

Does anyone remember from the Half Blood Prince if Padma was a student in Newt Potions.? Also were all the houses mixed in  Snape's Defense against the Dark Arts Class or were students attending by house  as previous years were?  Are only Gryffindors in the class with Harry?  As fewer students took Newts level classes  they appeared to be more mixed than the OWL level classes were.

I don't have my book and would welcome some advice from HP experts.

I can answer the first part for you: no, Padma was not in N.E.W.T. potions. (I was working on a fic about the Patils, so I combed through the books trying to figure out their classes.) All the Ravenclaws in potions were male, I may be able to tell you exactly if I can find my notes when I get home.

It seemed like the N.E.W.T. classes were mixed with students from all houses, likely because, as you say, there weren't as many students enrolled in each subject.

Thanks that's what I thought, but I wasn't positive.

All those writers who make Padma a healer are off base then, because she wouldn't have had the NEWTS for it, assuming that Healers needed a NEWT in Potions.

I'm pretty sure it says that all the potions students were Slytherin except for the Trio and Huffelpuff, so that would mean no, she didn't take it.

I think that the classes were mixed. Doesn't it say that in non-verbal spells Ernie looked like he had taken too much U-No-Poo or something? I think it was Ernie. But yeah, I think they were mixed, since less people were taking the subjects.

I forgot the line about Ernie. Thanks you've been a help.

Actually the books don't mention everyone in N.E.W.T. potions so there is a chance Padma would've been there. Non-mention during Potions does not equal non-existence during Potions. Writers do assume the 'Claws to be good @ studies and hence at Potions.

And yes, classes were combined for Potions and Defence, at the very least - not so sure for other NEWT subjects.

Yeah, I was feeling a little annoyed that there didn't seem to be any women other than Hermione and so few Ravenclaws. If the great distinction of the Ravenclaws were a love of learning surely they would be found in higher numbers in the more demanding classes. Just as it makes sense for more of the Gryffindors to be actively fighting, or more Hufflepuffs defend Harry. Otherwise it portrays an attitude where the trio has to do everything.

The classes were completely mixed for NEWT potions, but we don't know about the other NEWT classes. Probably depends on the pass ratio. And no, Padma was not one of the listed Ravenclaws in NEWT potions.
